Tsali Mountain Thompson Loop Professional Review and Guide
"Winding its way through rhododendron tunnels and laurel thickets alongside Lake Fontana, this loop is easy to follow. You'll spend much of the ride gradually climbing the ridge before making a heart-stopping descent to the bottom. Highlights: Creek crossings, Lake Fontana, views of Smokies, single track through rhododendron tunnels"
--Jim Parham, Off The Beaten Track Volume I: A Guide to Mountain Biking in Western North Carolina - The Smokies (Milestone Press).
This is a SOLID intermediate trail with a few pretty brutal switchbacks, very technical climbs, and some of the trickiest roots on the planet. Most of the first 6 miles is a slow climb, but you do get some flats and downhills along the way. Check your brakes before the long, winding downhill at the end of the trail. It's a blast!!!
