The small chunk of national forest land behind the Nantahala Village is laced with a network of rugged single track (the annual Knobscorcher races were once held here). From April through October many of the trails are used by a horse concessionaire, so be sure to ride before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m. to avoid scaring the horses. There are many options; below is one of the longer rides. Highlights: Views of Lake Fontana, short but steep hills, seasonal horse use
