Bannack was a ton of fun, on the weekends you can pan for gold and garnets. The actual Big Hole drive would be best in Spring, May or even June. Not July or August, forest fires and dry conditions made the air hazy and so there were not sweeping vistas to be seen. The trip to the Big Hole National Battlefield is a must see! We had fun in spite of the fire; make the side trip to the Pioneer Scenic By way too, that is also worth it.
