Whitefish River

Whitefish River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The slow-moving Whitefish River meanders past grassy meadows and willow-lined banks, providing a quiet escape close to town. A Class I river suitable for beginners. Perfect spot to take nervous-Nellie relative.

Besides a few worm dunkers, few anglers focus on the Whitefish River. The prolific tuber hatch deters most anglers in the summer. Some decent fishing can be had at the mouth of Whitefish Lake for those that want to avoid the crowds."

my wife and I Kayaked the river, we are experienced Kayakers and canoeist and at first thought the info was correct, class 1 suitable for beginners. On the river just below Hodgson rd we ran into white water and a complete log jam with a very bad "strainer" our kayaks and all our gear got pulled under along with us, we were lucky to make it out alive. The important thing is that other people be warned of this danger so some family with small children do not die on that strech of river.
