Trout Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A day hike or backpack from North McDonald Road trailhead to Trout Lake, 3.5 miles (5.5 km); North McDonald Road to Arrow Lake Campground, 7.0 miles (11.3 km); North McDonald Road to Camas Lake, 10.6 miles (17 km); or Glacier Route 7 to Camas Lake, 13.9 miles (22.4 km). All distances are one- way.
The lakes of Camas Creek can be reached by a low-maintenance, often boggy trail up the creek from the Inside North Fork Road (which was heavily burned in the 2001 Moose Fire) or by using a well-maintained cutoff trail that climbs over Howe Ridge to Trout Lake, a route that is 3.4 miles shorter. Horse parties favor the former route because of its low gradient, while hikers generally prefer the latter.Trout Lake and even Arrow Lake are reasonable day hike destinations from the North McDonald Road, and overnighters can camp at backcountry campsites at Arrow and Camas Lakes."
