Nyack–Coal Creek Loop

Nyack–Coal Creek Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This is a moderate to difficut backpack from Nyack Creek ford to Coal Creek ford, 37.3 miles (60.0 km) one way; or full loop, 41.5 miles (66.8 km). The Nyack–Coal Creek Loop provides the primary access route into and through the Nyack wilderness camping zone, with a spur trail to Cut Bank Pass linking it to trails in the Two Medicine area. The Nyack wilderness offers the most primitive hiking conditions found anywhere in the park and is not recommended for inexperienced hikers.

Minimum-impact camping is permitted anywhere within the wilderness zone with a few basic restrictions. Developed campsites are also available in the wilderness zone through the normal permit process. Fishing inthe area’s streams is not permitted. Trails tend to be brushy and hard to find, and you should expect to encounter obstacles such as knee-deep fords and blowdowns on this trail, especially early in the year."
