Dolly Varden Creek

Dolly Varden Creek Professional Review and Guide

"This trail is a major valley-bottom route that connects Schafer Meadows with the Pentagon Creek Trail. It can be reached from the northern end via the Granite or Morrison Creek Trails, and from the south via the Pentagon Creek Trail or the Elk Ridge route. This trail is often used by hikers accessing Argosy Creek and the Trilobite Range. Scenery is rather limited in the lower part of the valley, but improves beyond Argosy Creek, with craggy reefs of limestone looming to the west and the backbone of the Trilobite Range towering to the east of the valley. Dolly Varden Creek was named for the bull trout that spawn there; this trout was formerly known throughout the west as the Dolly Varden."
