The Palisades South Fork Grove Creek from Meeteetse Trail

The Palisades: South Fork Grove Creek from Meeteetse Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The headwaters of South Fork Grove Creek begin in the upper reaches of Mount Maurice. The creek flows down the east slope through Tolman Flat en route to the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone.

The South Fork area was part of the Crow Indian homelands and is considered a sacred place. The Meeteetse Spires contain hard-to-find pictographs and petroglyphs. Tepee rings and ancient stone markers are located in the vicinity. This area was also part of the route used by the Shoshone and Nez Perce tribes to hunt buffalo on the plains of what is now eastern Montana. The 560-acre tract of land is now overseen by the Bureau of Land Management."
