Spar Lake Professional Review and Guide
"Lincoln County is blessed with many excellent trout streams and lakes, but none is prettier than Spar Lake. Situated in the Cabinet Mountains south of Troy, Spar Lake ranks as one of western Montana’s most picturesque mountain lakes. Spar Lake is primarily a summer trolling fishery for cutthroat, lake and brook trout, and kokanee salmon. Anglers should be able to catch some 3- to 10-pound lake trout here. Thirteen- to 15-inch brookies have been pulled out of the lake, also.
FWP has been stocking the lake heavily with kokanee salmon for the past few years, and Spar now produces some of the largest salmon in the area, ranging from 16 to 18 inches. As Spar is a 400-acre, cold, clear, deep mountain lake, fish productivity is not exceptional. However, the surrounding terrain and the nearby Cabinet Wilderness Area provide ample incentive for anyone seeking spectacular scenery and peace and quiet."
