Smith Creek Pass

Smith Creek Pass Professional Review and Guide

"This trail offers a long day trip over the Swan Range and into the western edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. This eTrail description ends at Little Salmon Overlook, a scenic point offering outstanding views of the jagged peaks that rim the Little Salmon valley. The Little Salmon Trail continues beyond this point for a long distance, finally reaching the South Fork of the Flathead.

The trail begins its initial climb through the wooded bottomland of Smith Creek. After 0.5 mile, the trail doglegs to the north and climbs the hillside, passing along the edge of an old seed-tree cut. This logging practice leaves a scattering of desirable trees in the clearcut to serve as the breeding stock for the next generation of seedlings."
