Mid Creek

Mid Creek Professional Review and Guide

"The Mid Creek trail is a seldom-used route that follows a tributary of the South Fork of the Flathead. Downed timber and dense undergrowth make this trail impassable to horses in most years, but provide an excellent destination for hikers seeking wilderness solitude. The trail is reached via the East Side South Fork Trail (80), and the section of this trail leading to Mid Creek is discussed in detail in the section on Black Bear Creek.

From its junction with the South Fork trail, the Mid Creek trail runs northeastward, ascending across the slopes high above the north bank of the stream. Early on, openings reveal Black Bear Hump across the narrow valley, as well as Slick Rock on the far side of the South Fork. The vegetation alternates between a mixed forest, principally Douglas fir and birch, and steep, rocky Douglas fir savannah. In this latter plant community, yarrow and aster bloom in the dry meadows between the copses of trees."
