Lost Lake Trail

Lost Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This hike west of Missoula is in an often-overlooked section of the state south of Superior. This pocket of the Bitterroot Mountains is its northern- and westernmost reaches. The broad canyons yield to stout mountains. Cirque lakes dot the landscape. The lowland forest is lush.

Views stretch on when you get into the upper canyon, past the waterfall. The area is isolated and receives very little foot traffic. Any of Montana’s wild creatures can be encountered here. Though the habitat screams moose, bear, and elk, wolverine, lynx, and wolf are also around. The clear green waters of the lake itself are nestled on the side of the canyon beneath the forested Mink Peak."
