Kenai Nature Trail

Kenai Nature Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge is the last tract of undeveloped land in the Bitterroot Valley’s bottomland. The area serves as a slice of habitat for migrating birds and provides a beautiful backdrop for hikers.

Thick marshes of cattail stretch to the river’s banks, choked with thick stands of cottonwood. To the west, the Bitterroot Mountains erupt out of the valley floor, towering more than 6,000 feet above the refuge. The trail extends from the refuge’s headquarters building out to a wildlife viewing shelter equipped with a spotting scope."
