Jumbo Mountain Lookout

Jumbo Mountain Lookout Professional Review and Guide

"This trail provides a side trip to the top of a high peak overlooking The Basin in the Danaher Valley. From the Danaher Creek Trail, the trail to Jumbo Mountain Lookout runs due south, soon reaching a knee-deep ford of the main channel of Danaher Creek, which babbles swiftly over its bed of bright cobbles. The trail then crosses a substantial island in the stream to reach the deep, slow-moving west channel of the stream. Hikers can avoid this ford by following the streambank southward into the woods, where the stream is much shallower and can be crossed on logs that span the waters. Once on the far bank, the trail immediately begins climbing up the forested eastern slope of the mountain. As the trail winds onto grassy southfacing slopes, it offers sweeping views of The Basin, with its tawny grasslands stretched out amid the verdant carpet of the forest."
