Silver Run Plateau Trail from West Fork of Rock Creek

Silver Run Plateau Trail from West Fork of Rock Creek Professional Review and Guide

"The Silver Run Plateau is a wide open expanse at over 1 0,000 feet in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. Atop the massive plateau are dwarfed, windswept trees and grassy alpine meadows. The amazing panoramic vistas include the West Fork drainage down to Red Lodge, the eastern plains, the Lake Fork drainage to the Hellroaring Plateau, and Black Pyramid Mountain.

Three trails access the Silver Run Plateau. This hike begins by Silver Run Creek on the north flank of Wapiti Mountain and climbs through a dense conifer forest to the east edge of the plateau. Bring warm clothing and be prepared for changes in weather. (Hikes 22 and 28 offer two other routes up to the Silver Run Plateau.)"

My wife and I hiked this and it took us 5 hrs plus. We stopped for snacks, lots of pictures, and lunch. It was very warm, but a nice hike. You are never far from the river and you can always hear it or see it. The lower area is recovering very nicely from a past fire. With the shade removed the wild flowers have taken over and a lush dense mat of green, blues, yellows and reds have the floor covered. Farther up is the normal trees and ground covering. The two falls are great and you are able to get right up to the edges to get good pictures. I Would recommend this hike. It is a easy hike if you only go to the meadow, and that would make it a 8 mile out and back.
