Quinnebaugh Meadows

Quinnebaugh Meadows Professional Review and Guide

"A moderate day hike, easy overnighter, or base-camp trip to an unusually large and beautiful mountain meadow.

This trail, like most others in this region, is well maintained and marked. It closely follows the West Fork of Rock Creek, not climbing any more than the stream drops in elevation as it powers its way out of the Beartooths. Most of this route passes through a forest burned by the 2008 Cascade Fire, which gradually thins out as you progress up the drainage. In a few places the forest opens up into small meadows with rewarding vistas of Elk Mountain and Bowback Mountain on the southern horizon near the terminus of the West Fork valley.

The trail passes close by Calamity Falls and Sentinel Falls. These cascades are reminders that the West Fork is not only a peaceful stream meandering out of the wilderness, but that it can also be a powerful force. Short spur trails lead to both falls for better views."
