Chicago Peak and Cliff Lake

Chicago Peak & Cliff Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Few hikes can match this trip as an introduction to wilderness backpacking for families and novices, that is, as long as they have a vehicle with enough clearance to negotiate poor stretches of the road.

The route, which hasn’t even been shown on official maps, offers a short and fairly easy walk to an alpine lake perched at elev. 6,700 feet on a cliff where mountain goats hang out. On the way, the trail passes a peak that resembles a city skyline. All of this, and some hikers might not even break a sweat getting here, unless it’s to change a tire."
