Woods Gulch Loop

Woods Gulch Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The southernmost trail in the Rattlesnake, this loop up and above Woods Gulch is partly on the Sheep Mountain Trail (513). The route leads up the bottom of this rocky, shrubby gulch, surrounded by parklike ponderosa forest.

The trail eventually tops out on a ridge overlooking Marshall Creek with views up toward Blue Point and Wisherd Ridge. Continue climbing and take a left on a logging road. This winds around an old clear-cut and provides big views of the Missoula Valley and the Bitterroots. The road merges with Trail 513.1, taking hikers back toward Woods Gulch. At 5.6 miles connect back with the gulch-bottom trail to return to the trailhead."
