Vista Point Loop

Vista Point Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Vista Point Loop is a relatively wild experience in a Recreation Area that caters to several uses in addition to hiking. The heavily used trail offers a moderate incline and a rewarding view.

The journey begins by traversing the big meadow from the trailhead. The trail eventually works into a hillside covered in ponderosa pines and after a few switchbacks summits an unassuming knoll with incredible views of the Missoula Valley and surrounding mountains. The region is a restoration success story after decades of mismanagement."

"Blue Mountain Recreation Area is a popular 5,500-acre outdoor destination only two miles from Missoula. An army military reservation was once located here. In 1 986 the land was designated as a recreation area, and a network of multi-use trails was established. The picturesque landscape, part of the Lolo National Forest, includes a grassy valley bottom adjacent to several mountain peaks. Vista Point is a 4,030-foot rounded hilltop that offers unobstructed panoramas in every direction. The dog-friendly trail to the point crosses meadows and loops through a ponderosa pine and Douglas fir forest."
