Traveler’s Rest Interpretive Trail Traveler’s Rest State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Travelers’ Rest State Park is located on the banks of Lolo Creek near its confluence with the Bitterroot River just west of the town of Lolo. The 41-acre site marks the location of a centuries- old trading and camp site for Native Americans, including the Salish, Kootenai, Nez Perce, Pend d‘Oreilles, and Lemhi-Shoshone tribes.

For thousands of years, the timeworn site was the hub of four trading routes—European goods came from the north, horses from the south, buffalo from the east, and salmon from the west. The crossroad was also located along the ancient route from the northern Rocky Mountains to the eastern buffalo country."
