Mount Sentinel Loop: Mount Sentinel Fire Road to the M Professional Review and Guide

"Mount Sentinel is the landmark mountain overlooking Missoula with the large concrete M. The 5,1 58-foot mountain stretches from Hellgate Canyon in the north to Pattee Canyon in the south while towering over the University of Montana. This hike forms a loop on the dry western slope of Mount Sentinel, offering sweeping views across Missoula.

The hike begins at the base of the mountain near the university and climbs to an overlook of Pattee Canyon. The trail—the Mount Sentinel Fire Road—traverses the exposed mountain slope through Missoula open space land, crossing the top of the M and returning along the base of the M. This hike is a great alternative to the ever-popular M Trail."

We made this nice trail in winter, with a thin crust of snow, and enjoyed it a lot. Although there were no brochures at the trail-head, so we kind of imagined the explanations, haha. Anyways it's a beautiful, short, easy hike with a couple of nice viewpoints for a lazy Sunday
