Monture Falls

Monture Falls Professional Review and Guide

"Monture Falls is a small but pretty cascade where you’ll certainly find space and seclusion. The mostly flat and easy Monture Creek Trail is especially popular with backpackers and equestrians accessing the southern portion of the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the headwaters of the South Fork Flathead River.

You enter a broad valley east of the creek on a wide trail worn by heavy equestrian use. Cross Spread Creek either by wading or using a large stick to guide yourself over a narrow log. Continue ahead on Monture Creek Trail through a rare forest of primarily western larch trees that are present in all shapes and sizes—from tiny new saplings to century-old giants almost 200 feet tall. You reach the edge of a scree slope to the east that gives you open views of rocky crags."
