Middle Fork Deer Creek Trail

Middle Fork Deer Creek Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Deer Creek, a tributary of the Clark Fork of the Columbia River, flows through the Lolo National Forest east of Mount Sentinel and Pattee Canyon.

Three tributaries flow into Deer Creek at its headwaters. This hike follows the Middle Fork of Deer Creek where it merges with the West Fork. The lush trail follows a regenerated logging road and heads upstream in a pristine forested drainage that is rich with wildflowers."

This is a great early morning trip to go sit in the natural hot springs. We got to middle of the three hot springs about 9:30 am on a Saturday and had the valley to ourselves. By 10:30 we had four couples changing and jumping in the pool with us. We continued on the trail until the Bear Mountain Cut Off. Earlier is better. As we returned through the hot spring area at 3:00pm all the pools were full.

We came here in a weekday and were the only ones enjoying for hours of the incomparable scenery and the rise of the stars and the moon as it went dark... unforgettably wild experience!
