"The Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Wilderness, part of the Lolo National Forest, encompasses 61 ,000 acres north of the Missoula city limits. The area offers many hiking options just a few miles from town.

The recreation area contains 28,000 acres, while 33,000 acres are protected as wilderness. This spectacular area has sweeping mountains, hanging valleys, and lake-filled basins. Eight separate trailheads provide access to a web of interconnecting trails."
