Crooked Trail-Pengelly Ridge Trail Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Crooked Trail connects the west face of Mount Sentinel with Crazy Canyon and the Pattee Canyon National Recreation Area. The trail begins at the southern terminus of Maurice Avenue, near the university, and traverses the western face of Mount Sentinel, where there are great views across Missoula. The Crooked Trail then curves around the slope of Mount Sentinel and brings into view Pattee Canyon.
After meandering through gently sloping meadows covered in native grasses and wildflowers, the trail descends into a wooded drainage alongside Crooked Creek in Snowshoe Canyon. The creek bottom is shaded with ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. For a more strenuous loop hike, return via the Pengelly Ridge Trail, descending on the exposed west-facing slope with far-reaching vistas."
