Canyon Creek Trail to Canyon Falls and Canyon Lake Professional Review and Guide
"The headwaters of Canyon Creek form in the Bitterroots at Canyon Peak directly west of Hamilton. Three connecting lakes lie below Canyon Peak in a gorgeous glacial cirque beneath the shadow of the 9,1 53-foot peak. Just below the third lake, Canyon Creek drops 200 feet off the rocky cliffs in a spectacular cascade called Canyon Falls. The Canyon Creek Trail follows the north side of the creek to the falls and continues to East Lake and Canyon Lake in the canyon’s upper reaches, 5.5 miles from the trailhead. This hike includes the first four miles of the trail to an overlook of Canyon Falls. The creek can be heard through the deep, quiet forest but only approaches its banks occasionally. The trail moderately gains elevation along Canyon Creek until a half mile before the falls, where the path steeply climbs several hundred feet in elevation to the lake at 7,300 feet."
