"The gently rounded hills of the Sapphire Range frame the east side of the Bitterroot Valley. Calf Creek Wildlife Management Area, established in 1 960, encompasses 2,333 acres in the foothills of the Sapphire Mountains, eight miles east of Hamilton. The area is used to provide winter range for elk. It also offers access to hiking, biking, and equestrians. The rolling terrain is primarily a mix of sagebrush, native upland grasslands, ponderosa pine forest, and rocky outcrops. This hike loops through open foothills, up a ponderosa pine draw, and to viewpoints with sweeping vistas of the serrated Bitterroot Range. To the trailhead"
