"The 2,800-acre Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge lies in the Bitterroot Valley north of Stevensville. The refuge borders the banks of the Bitterroot River and is surrounded by fertile ranch and farmland. It is a premier bird watching habitat with migrating and resident waterfowl. The refuge includes a chain of ponds, wildlife viewing areas, a meadow, river bottom woodlands, riparian and wetland habitats, and a visitor center."
