Big Creek Trail is a popular hiking, fishing, and horsepacking trail to Big Creek Lake, the largest alpine lake in the Bitterroots. Big Creek flows down one of the widest drainages in this mountain range. The trail follows the creek for nine miles up to Big Creek Lake and dam at an elevation of 5,865 feet, gaining over 2,000 feet in elevation. This hike includes the first two miles of the trail to several white sand beaches near wide, slow moving sections of Big Creek. These streamside beaches are great locations for a picnic or for soaking your feet in the cool water.
