Powder River

Powder River Professional Review and Guide

"A remote eastern Montana river, described by pioneers as "a mile wide and an inch deep," that flows through some of Montana's most uninhabited, desolate badlands and prairies. The river is all Class I, suitable for beginners, except for 200 yards of Class II+ rapids beginning at mile 8.

The higher in the drainage you go, the more remote it gets. Some motorboat traffic near the mouth of the Yellowstone. It’s downright lonely at the top. Take a spring float to look for turkeys. Beware of high water in May."
