Wendover/Whitehouse Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"These two adjacent and very similar campgrounds on the Lochsa River are tucked deep in the forested draws of high mountains—you get direct sunlight in much of this area only during the middle of the day. The river is in one of its prettiest passages here, wide but still dramatically rumbling.

More important to many of the campers here is the easy hiking access to the north side of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area, whose boundary is just a few miles south. Whitehouse Campground is named not for a building but for Army private Joseph Whitehouse. A member of the Lewis and Clark expedition, he was one of five participants to write a journal about it."
