Jerry Johnson Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Jerry Johnson was like many other shady and RV- oriented campgrounds on the Lochsa River until the spring of 2004, when diseases spreading among the firs in the area (root disease and stem decay) resulted in a forest service clear-cut of the area over the next two years. That was followed by a regimen of tree planting.

Today, the Jerry Johnson is still more sunny than shady, but it is returning to its former character. This campground is located close to the Powell campground, so services and supplies are readily available. Jerry Johnson was a fur trapper who lived in a cabin near the present campground site. It was a frequent stopping point for hunting parties in the area."
