Thompson Lake Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A moderate day hike or overnighter to a beautiful mountain lake, a rare occurrence in the southern Absaroka Range.
For me Thompson Lake was a pleasant surprise, a gorgeous little gem nestled in the southern Absaroka Range, which has a shortage of lakes. It’s also an easy hike on a well-maintained and well- traveled trail. The heavy stock traffic has helped keep this trail very distinct. There were no mileage signs, but based on my normal hiking pace, it’s close to 5 miles to the lake.
The route starts out in a forest burned by the 1988 forest fi res, but after about a mile it heads into a mature, unburned forest for the rest of the way. The route is undulating but has no hills worth mentioning. Watch for the Monitor Peak Trail junction in a large meadow on the top of a ridge, the only meadow on this route."
