Pine Creek Falls is a tall and narrow, doubletier cataract that fans out as it plunges over a large rock outcrop. The headwaters of Pine Creek form at Black Mountain in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. The creek fills Pine Creek Lake as it cascades 3,000 feet down the east wall of Paradise Valley to the valley floor. The Pine Creek Trail is a 5-mile-long trail that climbs 3,1 00 feet to Pine Creek Lake (Hike 1 03). This hike follows the first mile of the trail along the cascading creek to the magnificent falls. The path meanders through a spruce, fir, aspen, and maple forest en route to the base of the falls.
