Sky Lakes and Hanging Valley

Sky Lakes & Hanging Valley Professional Review and Guide

"A pair of pretty mountain lakes at the base of an unnamed 7,700-foot peak near Sugarloaf Mountain attracts more than a thousand visitors a year to this part of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness.

The trail to Sky Lakes is popular among both hikers and equestrians, although it passes a rugged spur option heading up with no mercy to a significantly quieter little Shangri-la."

Decent trail, with a few steep sections, to a series of lakes high above the town of Libby. Trail to Hanging Valley is moderately strenuous but completely non-technical. Route from Hanging Valley to Sky Lakes is quite steep and was a bit tricky during the snowstorm I encountered while making my way over/down the ridge.
