Upper Two Medicine Lake

Upper Two Medicine Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Visitors can combine this spur trail with the Two Medicine Loop for a long day hike of 12 miles, or take the tour boat to the head of Two Medicine Lake and hike the trail in a couple of hours. If you do take the boat, be sure to find out when scheduled trips depart for the return to the foot of the lake."

"An easy hike into a spectacular mountain lake. The first part of this hike is as easy as it gets — a boat ride. After 9:00 A.M. you can catch a ride on the Hiker’s Express for a small sum. The boat leaves about every hour from the lower end of the lake to a boat ramp and shelter at the upper end. This cuts 3 miles off your hike to Upper Two Medicine Lake. Perhaps because this is such an easy hike that can be combined with a scenic boat ride, it’s extremely popular. On a warm summer day, hundreds of people will take the boat ride and walk as far as Twin Falls, and many of them will extend their day hike to Upper Two Medicine Lake."

"A day hike or short backpack from the upper boat dock. The Upper Two Medicine Lake Trail can be reached from the North or South Shore Trails that ring Two Medicine Lake, or by launch to the upper boat dock. The lake is a popular destination for tourists taking motor launch tours.

The Launch and South Shore Trails run in tandem from the head of the lake up the south bank of Two Medicine Creek. Half a mile beyond the lake’s head, the trail forks. The right fork connects to the North Shore–Dawson Pass Trail, while the left fork turns northwest to Twin Falls and Upper Two Medicine Lake."

"An easy day hike or overnighter into a spectacular mountain lake"

Good hike. Harder than easy, good trail, but lots of uphill. Hike to upper lake difficult and easy to lose trail. Stay high, the "trail" next to the lake is overgown. Upper lake not as pretty as advertised; I preferred the lower lake.

A fun easy hike through a less travelled section of the park. It is a beautiful lake. The trail access to the lake is between several of the backcountry campsites in the area. Access to the water can be limited by the large number of deadfall that have migrated to the lower section of the lake. At this time the hike also moves through an avalanche area which is pretty interesting. For a more fun and shorter hike take the boat to the dock at the far end of lower Two Medicine Lake

This was a nice out and back after setting our tent up in Two Medicine camp. Great views of the lakes and peaks in this area. Take the side trip to Twin Falls along the way, it is worth the stop. A must trail for anyone staying in the camp.

Maybe the best day hike rated "easy" I've ever taken. It's short, well marked to lower lake, not a difficult grade, both lakes and surrounding alpine basins are breathtaking, and has ample meadow and forest scenery for anyone. If you want to fish the trees and shrubs limit your options from shore, but it can be done (much easier with spinning gear than a fly rod). Since it's an easy hike many people pack in a belly boat.

This is a good beginner hike, or a hike for those who are tired and just want to see some more views. We took this hike on our first day just to get a feel for the area. It's a good leisure hike and the lake is quite beautiful.
