South Fork Flathead River

South Fork Flathead River Professional Review and Guide

"The South Fork is a fairy-tale wilderness river that flows through the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, with crystal clear waters, native cutthroat trout, and an occasional grizzly bear.

The river is predominately Class I but is punctuated by some difficult rapids. The extremely remote Meadow Creek Gorge has Class III and IV rapids (Class 5 at peak flows) and should only be attempted by experts. Watch for a short set of Class III and IV rapids below Hungry Horse Dam. Harrison Creek to spotted Bear (via the Cedar Flats access) is a great one-day trip."
