Located in the South Hills south of Helena along Unionville road, on the west flank of Rodney Ridge. Until 1995, the Waterline Trail was one of Helena's most popular hiking and biking trails. It's nearly level grade and shady route above the Unionville Road enticed many beginning riders and families to try singletrack for the first time. Sadly, private landowners along the north end of the trail decided to fence their property lines and prohibit trespassing, abruptly cutting off access to the trail from town. This short loop takes advantage of an access trail built in 1997 on land managed by the Prickly Pear Land Trust. Enjoy the spicy singletrack, which is perfect for beginners at slower speeds and a blast for more advanced riders at race pace. Watch for deer and other wildlife as you ride. More trail construction on Prickly Pear Land Trust property may open new access trails in the near future. Check with the land trust or local bike shops for current information.
