Helena Area Campgrounds Professional Review and Guide
"Helena inhabits prairie, reservoir, recreation areas, high mountain seclusion, and every other type of landscape in between. Historic ghost towns and ancient log cabins defiantly battle the elements, some with more success than others. Native Americans have left evidence of their campsites, with tepee rings still visible as well. And abandoned mines have bequeathed a legacy of relics and spoil piles here, though an active effort is being made to reclaim the land. Gold can still be found in select spots, but be aware that the better locations are already claimed and prospecting is not welcomed.
Gem quality crystals are plentiful and attract many to the area; specific spots are set aside for collecting. Elk, deer, moose, and other wildlife frequently come into view. Exactly when and where is more a function of the time of year than of location. Keep in mind that the “wild” in wildlife means just that. The animals are not pets, nor do they want to be."
