Head Lane to Scratchgravel Peak

Head Lane to Scratchgravel Peak Professional Review and Guide

"Located 6 miles north of Helena on the west end of the Helena Valley. The Scratchgravels are the place to ride when Helena's South Hills are muddy or snow closes the higher elevations. Scant precipitation and sandy soils mean dry trails and a longer riding season, even through winter in some years.

There's also plenty of beginner and intermediate terrain, though the final hillclimb to the peak is for strong, skilled riders only. Anyone can enjoy the ride to a scenic overlook at mile 7.6, and many other trails beckon along the way. Watch for deer and birds of prey. Portions of this ride traverse private holdings, some of which may be posted against trespass. Please heed all posted property boundaries. Future access is uncertain."
