This is a great early season hike as the trail is clear (i.e. no snow!). However, the creek at 3.5 miles was impassable due to the amount of runoff. Maybe someday I'll make it to the dam!

This is a great trail, it is easy, it is easy to find and begins at a large parking lot with restrooms and a changing room to change out of waders etc. We have never seen a rattlesnake up there and have spent a lot of time there although a friend did see one on the trail. There isn't a lot of room to camp along the trail, you will be camping right on the trail. The weekends are pretty crowded but it is a very beautiful place. One bit of advice, the Madison River is one of the few places that grows poison ivy in MT. esp. in the spring.
