Bear Prairie

Bear Prairie Professional Review and Guide

"This is a long day hike or overnighter into the heart of the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness.

The 28,560-acre Gates of the Mountains Wilderness has open parks, deep canyons, and craggy peaks, but no lakes. More than compensating for this void, however, is the area’s rich history.

From the Refrigerator Canyon Trailhead Trail 259 gradually climb about a quarter of a mile to Refrigerator Canyon. Even on the hottest summer day, it is cool in this extremely steep, narrow canyon."

This is a great trail with tons of beautiful views along the way. There are several mountain lakes on this trail...some of them are full of Cutthroat Trout. These lakes are also a great place for an overnight camping trip. You will probably need to wait until at least June to be able to access this area due to the heavy snows that this area gets.
