Roaring Lion Creek

Roaring Lion Creek Professional Review and Guide

"This lightly used out-and-back trail is without any obvious attractions or connections to other drainages. Over its length you encounter standard Bitterroot fare— a rushing mountain stream, extensive talus fields, lodgepole forest, and towering granite spurs—that is enjoyable in a general sense but not outstanding in any particular respect. Scattered campsites along its upper reaches offer streamside camping in decidedly isolated surroundings.

This trail provides a short-length day hike to an attractive mountain lake overlooking a portion of the Bitterroot Valley near Victor. Due to heavy use and the relatively short distances involved, Glen Lake is a poor choice for backpacking and offers little satisfaction for those seeking true wilderness solitude. As an indication of just how popular this trail is, more than a dozen vehicles occupied the trailhead at the time of my June 28, 1998, visit."
