Gunsight Pass Professional Reviews and Guides
"A backpack from Jackson Glacier Overlook to Lake Ellen Wilson, 10.9 miles (17.5 km) one- way; from Jackson Glacier Overlook to Sperry Chalet, 13.3 miles (22 km) one- way; or from Jackson Glacier Overlook to Lake McDonald, 20.0 miles (32 km) one-way.
The Gunsight Pass Trail is an extremely popular backpacking route that ascends to the Continental Divide from the St. Mary Valley and crosses rocky ledges and alpine meadows to Sperry Chalet before descending to Lake McDonald. The high country offers access to active glaciers, excellent fishing in subalpine lakes, and viewing opportunities for many types of wildlife. The 2017 Sprague Fire burned the forests around the Sperry Chalet, and plants are already starting to rebound in an example of natural post-fire restoration."
