Boiling River Trail and Swimming Hole

Boiling River Trail and Swimming Hole Professional Review and Guide

"This hike is a popular and easy trail that clings to the west bank of the Gardner River en route to a hot springs. The hot springs flows over travertine rocks into the cool river, creating a swimming area with hot pools, small waterfalls and lush green vegetation. The river is heated from underground water from Mammoth Hot Springs. The trail lies on the 45th parallel, half way between the equator and the North Pole."

Easy trail along the Boiling River. I took a longer hike earlier in the day so this trail was a nice addition for the late afternoon. It was great to cool off in the river and and give my legs a rest. You can find a place along the river to swim and the temperature can vary according to the location of the hot springs flowing into the river.
The trail is well worn, flat and short. It is a fun place to go if you have never been there. We used to go down and watch the sun come up but there are regulations regarding the times you can be down there now. It is a nice place to go in the winter to go and sit in the warm water by the ledge and relax. It used to be fairly accepted to swim with or without swimming suits but I think that has also changed and suits are required. It is a fun place to take kids. It is a very popular place esp. in the summers.
This was a very cool or should I say warm place. This is the first hot spring I was ever in. I am hoping to go back to Yellowstone National Park again and I will be visiting this trail again.
