Lady of the Lake

Lady of the Lake Professional Review and Guide

"An easy day hike or overnighter to a gorgeous forested lake. Lady of the Lake is an ideal choice for an easy day hike or overnighter with small children. Besides being a short hike, watching the weather isn’t as critical as it is at the higher elevations.

After crossing Fisher Creek on a bridge, the trail goes by a small inholding with a cabin and then heads down a well-maintained, forest-lined trail to Lady of the Lake. The Forest Service sign says 1 mile to the lake, but it’s probably more like 1.5 miles. The trail breaks out of the trees into a large marshy meadow at the foot of the lake."

The hike was actually done in September of 2017, but the calendar above won't let me change to that date. This trail is a difficult to find - we had to rely on the directions of a local since nothing was marked. But once on the trail it was pleasant and except for the lone fisherman we found at the lake, we didn't see a single soul. The hike was relatively flat and not challenging. Well, not challenging until we got to the lake. When we got there, we decided to walk part way around it to eat our lunch on a group of rocks/boulders. The rocks were wet and my husband said to me "be careful" and you can just about guess what happened - I did slip and went into the water. Worse than the embarrassment of falling, was the fact that my day pack somehow got stuck between 2 rocks that were underwater, and I lay there unable to get up - flaying like an upturned turtle. My husband dragged me out, and knowing that I couldn't hike back soaking wet, I stripped and hung my clothes on sunny areas, wearing only my husband's rain jacket while we ate. We laughed all the way back to the car and he immediately violated my demand that he not tell anyone what happened. A very pleasant hike and funny story to remember.
