Spot Mountain Lookout

Spot Mountain Lookout Professional Review and Guide

"This well-defined trail provides a very long day hike to the crest of Spot Mountain, site of a USFS fire lookout that is still actively used for summer fire reconnaissance. The peak is a long way from anywhere and sees very few visitors; recreational use is virtually nonexistent outside of hunting season.

Originally excluded when Congress designated the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness in 1964, full federal protection for Spot Mountain and much of the surrounding Magruder Corridor region was extended with passage of the Central Idaho Wilderness Act of 1980."
