Boulder Creek

Boulder Creek Professional Review and Guide

"Boulder Creek is the southernmost of the major Bitterroot River tributaries originating in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Its beautiful lakes, colorful pocket meadows, tumbling waterfalls, and good fishing attract backpackers and equestrians by the dozen each summer.

Its connection with the Canyon Creek Trail (2) on the Bitterroot Divide allows for the possibility of much longer point-to-point hikes to the Paradise Guard Station or to the Tin Cup Creek Trailhead."

Excellent hike except mosquitos will get you above Baker Lake. On the drive up to trail look for turn out with rock croppings that will give you a great view for a quick lunch.

Excellent hike. Beautiful lake at the top and nice views back over the Bitterroot Valley and West Fork on the way up and back. Best hike of the week.

This is a fantastic hike! We stopped at Baker Lake, an amazing spot to lounge for lunch and take a swim. Bring bug spray, we got a ton of mosquito bites!

Trail is probably beautiful - but we could not access it. Road is clear of snow until about 1/4 mile before trail head, and then deep snow (2 - 4 feet) on road to trail head. Walked through snow hoping trail would be on sunnier location and snow might have melted, but no - hiked about 50 yards up trail in snow, mostly packed with foot holes from prior hikers. Hard to see the trail now. Need some good warm weather for this trail to open up. Beautiful view off road about 1/2 mile from trail head - it made the slow drive worth while.

Dear Trails.com We did not go on this trail due to the fact that the dirt road leading to the trail head was icy and very slick. Therefore, we took another trail that had a dirt road leading to it that was acceptable and thus cannot give a report on the Baker Lake road. Sincerely, Walter F. Billings
