This is exactly the sort of thing I look for in a trail. Solitude and adventure. This trail (actually trails as there is a split a few miles in that allows hikers to head to Bootjack gap or follow Timber creek) is moderately easy to follow but it does meander through some dark forest that seem to have a habit of dropping trees in your way. There are also several stream crossing one of which is particularily deep and dangerous. I did see bear sign throughout the area but no grizzlies were encountered along this hike. I choose to hike towards Bootjack Gap rather than follow Timbercreek. The views were beautiful when they presented themselves and I enjoyed the time spent in the thicker forests as well. I would not recommend this hike unless you feel you have well refined back country skills, common sense and fairly good luck. Otherwise this one may be easier done by horse. It is nice to spend time in Yellowstone country without the crowds and traffic.
