Ear Mountain

Ear Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"This trail wanders through the forelands of the Rocky Mountain Front, where the High Plains meet the mountains. It passes through the Ear Mountain Outstanding Natural Area, managed by the Bureau of Land Management to protect elk winter range; it is the only locale in the United States where grizzly bears still wander out onto the High Plains.

This entire area is closed to all use between December 15 and July 15 of each year to allow the bears to use the area without interruption. The trail leads up to a broad flat at the base of Ear Mountain; climbing the summit requires an extra four miles of off-trail hiking."
